The Algona FFA Chapter has been officially recognized among the state’s premier agricultural education programs, earning a prestigious National 3-Star Chapter Rating through the National FFA Organization’s National Chapter Award Program.

This elite recognition places Algona among the top 13 FFA chapters in Iowa—a remarkable feat given that the state boasts 273 local chapters serving over 20,800 FFA members.

The National Chapter Award Program recognizes local chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the National FFA Organization. Rather than honoring individual students or single competitive teams, the award evaluates the overall strength, quality, and impact of an entire chapter’s year-round programming.

To qualify for state and national recognition, chapters must meet rigorous criteria outlined in the National Quality Chapter Standards (NQCS). Chapters are required to plan and execute a comprehensive Program of Activities (POA) featuring at least 15 distinct activities—specifically addressing five quality standards across three core divisions: Growing Leaders, Building Communities and Strengthening Agriculture.

Judges evaluate each chapter on the quality of its planning, execution, and overall benefit to its members, school, and local community.

By achieving the highest 3-Star rating, the Algona FFA Chapter has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to improving chapter operations and providing meaningful, hands-on educational experiences for its entire membership.

Algona FFA member Reid Louwagie has achieved the highest honor awarded to student members by the National FFA Organization, officially earning his American FFA Degree. Louwagie will be formally recognized and presented with the award during the 2026 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

The American FFA Degree represents the pinnacle of achievement within the organization, recognizing students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to agricultural education, community service, leadership, and hands-on agricultural experience.

Earning this distinction puts Louwagie in elite company: fewer than one percent of all FFA

members nationwide ever reach this milestone. To qualify, candidates must meet rigorous academic, leadership, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project requirements through a chapter in good standing.

As part of the official recognition at the national convention, Louwagie will receive a gold American FFA Degree key along with an official certificate honoring his dedication and leadership in agriculture.
