The Algona Bulldogs girls' basketball team is heading to the Class 3A Regional Finals. In a high-stakes defensive battle on Wednesday night, the Bulldogs secured a narrow 42-40 victory over the Clear Lake Lions, moving one step closer to the state tournament.

The regional semifinal was a classic nail-biter between two powerhouse programs. After a season of back-and-forth matchups, Algona managed to stifle the Lions' offense in the closing minutes, extending their impressive winning streak and improving their season record to 20-4.

With the win, the Bulldogs advance to the Class 3A Region 7 Championship. They are set to face off against a familiar foe, Forest City, who advanced after a dominant 70-45 win over Carroll.

Saturday’s regional final presents a chance at redemption for the Bulldogs, who look to avenge a narrow season-opening loss to Forest City in November with the ultimate prize on the line: a trip to the State Tournament at Casey’s Center (formerly Wells Fargo Arena) in Des Moines.
