MANSON, IA — On Saturday, January 24, student performers gathered at Manson Northwest Webster High School for a day of rigorous competition and artistic storytelling for the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) District Large Group Contest. Despite logistical and weather challenges that disrupted rehearsals, the students delivered quality performances, securing top marks across the majority of their entries.
The group presented a total of six judged performances, with five earning the prestigious Division I rating. The successful entries spanned a wide range of categories, showcasing the versatile talent of the students:
- Short Film: "The Data"
- Ensemble Acting: "The Foreigner"
- Radio News: Murphy’s Law Radio
- Musical Theatre: Fiddler on the Roof
- Group Improv
In addition to the top-tier sweeps, the Ensemble Acting piece "The Web" earned a respectable Division II rating, contributing to the group's overall successful showing at the event.
Entries earning a Division I rating will perform again at the IHSSA State Large Group Festival on Saturday, February 7 at Cherokee Washington High School.
