Elementary Students Begin Reading Challenge with Olympics Twist

The staff and students at Bertha Godfrey and Bryant are excited to announce that they will be participating in a special reading initiative this February designed to promote reading and foster a deeper love for literature. The theme for this year’s event is “Become a Champion with Reading.”

Throughout the “Become a Champion with Reading” program, students will engage in a series of enjoyable, reading-based activities. On Tuesday, Feb. 3rd, each student received a reading log to track their progress, which should be returned every Friday, starting Feb 6th. The goal is for each student to color in a medal for every book or chapter they read.

The students were able to visit the new Fieldhouse and walk the track, similar to the opening of the Olympic games!

Each class created a banner to lead their group as they walked the track. The students were then visited by some high school athletes who talked about what reaching goals means to them.

The “Become a Champion with Reading” event will conclude with a school-wide celebration of reading on Friday, February 20th.
