AHS Celebrates Boys Wrestling, NHS Blood Drive, Model UN & More!

There is a specific kind of energy in the halls of Algona High this week—a mix of championship grit, global ambition, and community heart. From the wrestling mats to the international debate floor, our Bulldogs are proving that they don’t just participate; they lead.

The Gift of Life

Last Thursday, the National Honor Society transformed the Wilcox PAC Lobby into a hub of literal life-saving. On February 13, 39 donors stepped up, including 19 first-timers who overcame the nerves of the needle for a greater cause. By the end of the day, 42 units of blood were collected, enough to sustain the lives of 126 people. To every student and staff member who worked a shift or rolled up a sleeve: thank you for your selfless contribution.

From Algona to the Global Stage

Model UN is preparing for a truly unique challenge next week. They are traveling to Muscatine for the Future Leaders Summit, but they won't just be facing familiar Iowa rivals. They will be competing against 100 students flying in from the Eastern coast of China. These international delegates have qualified through their own rigorous conferences to test their diplomacy against our best and brightest. As our students prepare to represent the Red and Black on a global scale, we wish them the best of luck in their negotiations!

Hardwood Heroes & Harmonious Notes

The dominance of Algona Girls Basketball continues! For the third consecutive year, our team has secured the NCC Championship. After a win this past Saturday, the girls are back on the home court tonight at 7:00 PM to take on Clear Lake.

(Reminder: Use the Bound website or a card at the door, as AHS passes do not apply to post-season play.)

While the cheers ring out in the gym, our Jazz Choir is fine-tuning their set for the Shake the Lakes Jazz Contest in Spirit Lake this Friday night. They recently performed for the IHSMA State Jazz Choir Festival where they earned a Division I rating. Their set this year includes an eclectic set of challenging music that has strengthened their ear training and music reading skills.

The Road to State

To close the pep rally, AHS recognize the sheer determination of our wrestling program. It takes an incredible amount of discipline to make it to the top, and we are honored to celebrate Coach Alesch, Coach Morgan, and our State Wrestling Qualifiers. These athletes have earned their spot on the floor and their chance at history. Click the button below to learn more about the participants and their success.
